The first Syrian Salon competition took place at Cove Rotana Resort in Ras Al Khaimah, with the aim of educating chefs on Syrian cuisine.
The competition gathered 104 chefs from across the UAE, and 18 judges from the Emirates Culinary Guild and the Syrian Culinary Guide.
Chef Majed Al Sabagh, president of the Syrian Culinary Guild, commented: “The highlight of this first edition is to emphasise the Syrian cuisine and showcase it to the UAE.
“Also, we aim to educate our local chefs to elevate their cooking style to worldwide standards in order to compete with other countries in the near future.
Kempinski Hotel Ajman took part in the competition, with a team of five supervised by executive chef Manoj Aswal.
The team took home five bronze medals and one silver after competing in four categories: Traditional vs Modern Syrian Cuisine, Live Cooking Dressing, Kibbeh Assortment and Dessert Assortment.
Al Sabagh added: “We plan on having such a culinary competition once a year, promoting the Syrian cuisine and encouraging a generation of new chefs to lead new culinary concepts.”
