Two official competitions, certified by World Coffee Events (WCE) and sanctioned by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), will take centre stage at SIAL Middle East, bringing together the regions most passionate and talented baristas.
In addition to this, the SCA will showcase their Education Programme at SIAL Middle East for the first time. A series of training sessions conducted by Joseph Gitonga and Branislav Beronja focusing on the Barista Skills Module will help attendees develop their coffee knowledge and skills.
The SCA’s programme offers high-quality coffee education for further development of industry professionals in the UAE.
Khalid Al Mulla, National Coordinator of the SCA’s UAE Chapter, said “SIAL Middle East is a key partner of the SCA and the obvious choice to host this year’s competitions, the 2018 National Latte Art Championship and 2018 National Brewers Cup Championship. The exhibition provides the perfect platform for us to showcase our Education Program, and we’re looking forward to interacting with coffee professionals and enthusiasts from all over the Middle East.”
National Brewers Cup Championship
The UAE National Brewers Cup Championship competition showcases coffee preparation in its purest form as baristas demonstrate their high level of skill through filter coffee brewing, done entirely by hand. In this exciting competition the competitors are tasked with preparing and serving three individual coffee beverages for a panel of judges.
The 2018 UAE National Brewers Cup Champion will represent the UAE at the 2019 World Brewers Cup Championship in Boston, USA in April 2019. Return flight tickets and hotel accommodation will be provided by the SCA-UAE Chapter.
National Latte Art Championship
This Championship challenges the barista and highlights their artistic skills in a competition format. Baristas are judged based on visual attributes, creativity, identical patterns in pairs, contrast in patterns, and overall performance.
The 2018 UAE National Latte Art Champion will represent the UAE at the 2019 World Latte Art Championship in Berlin, Germany in June, 2019.
Baristas and coffee professionals can register to compete in one or all three competitions. Registration forms, competition rules, and regulations can be accessed by getting in touch at contact@scauae.com.
