The first Expert Session at Hotel News ME’s Procurement Conference was conducted by Roopali Khurana, lead consultant and trainer at Arc Blue.
Khurana talked about how can purchasing practices be made easier, considering the given number of hotels in the region is about to drastically increase.
She highlighted how one of the major challenges is that most professionals working in procurement have landed there without any kind of academic qualifications.
Khurana explained that generating profit without increasing sale is not only possible but extremely efficient. She said: “A stronger way to generate revenue is control spending compared to making a sale.
“By efficiently reducing your buying costs, you could drastically improve your revenue. It could be as little as 2% reduction in overall cost that could result in a 25% profit.”
Saying that, Khurana admits that quality has to be considered.
“Quality is core. However, is it necessary to have quality in everything that I buy?” she questioned.
According to her as long as the product is qualitative and satisfies the customer, it doesn’t matter. “There isn’t a need to spend extravagant amounts on luxury brands when the customer doesn’t need it.”
The inaugural Procurement Conference was held at Grosvenor House in Dubai on 19 October 2015.
