Dubai’s vibrant culinary scene is set to welcome a new addition with the launch of Khadak, an all-day Indian dining destination. Founded by renowned Chef Naved Nasir, Khadak is an ode to the iconic food shops of India and a celebration of the country’s rich culinary heritage.
Nestled in the charming Villa 426 on Al Wasl Road, Khadak offers an experience that revives forgotten recipes and dying traditions, providing a nostalgic yet refined experience for the modern palate. At the heart of Khadak is its thoughtfully crafted menu, showcasing signature dishes such as the Khadak Raan, a grand showstopper of slow-cooked goat leg braised in the chef’s special spice mix, the Bheja Akuri, a rich scramble of lamb brain and eggs on crispy baguettes, the N.M. Chicken Shammi, paying homage to the legendary Noor Mohammadi at Bhendi Bazaar. Another standout is the Shabrati Nihari, a slow-cooked pulled mutton dish infused with warm spices. Traditionally a breakfast favourite at Delhi’s Chitli Qabar bazaar, this succulent dish can be enjoyed any time of the day.
Vegetarian highlights include the Morel Cheese Kulcha with Truffle Butter, as well as the classic and comforting Khadak Daal. For dessert, Khadak takes creative liberties with traditional recipes, reimagining them with a fresh perspective. The Chillia Bread & Butter Pudding offers a sweet and spiced indulgence inspired by the Konkani Chillia community. Additionally, in collaboration with Pastry Chef and Dessert Consultant Nadia Parekh, Khadak introduces a selection of desserts that blend traditional flavours with modern techniques, adding a new dimension to classic Indian sweets.
Chef Naved Nasir, known for his leadership at Dishoom, brings his vision and expertise to Khadak. Reflecting on his journey, Nasir says, “Throughout my career, I’ve encountered dishes that are rarely seen on menus today—whether from India’s legendary food streets, weddings, or recipes that have disappeared because of how labor-intensive they are. Bringing these underrepresented dishes and their heritage to life is a dream of mine. I want to create a menu that not only celebrates diverse flavours but also tells the stories of the people behind the food. I want Khadak to be a voice for these dying arts, recipes and stories.”
Complementing the culinary experience is Khadak’s enticing non-alcoholic beverage menu, curated in collaboration with mixologist Carl Brown. Each mocktail draws inspiration from the unique personalities of the “People of Khadak,” offering refreshing drinks that reflect the character and stories of the communities Khadak represents.
Beyond the food, Khadak’s interiors are a blend of tradition and modernity. Hand-painted murals by Indian artists flown in specifically for the project adorn the walls, bringing India’s storytelling traditions to life. The outdoor murals, with their faded, ghost-signage style, transform the space into a visual narrative that complements Khadak’s mission of celebrating India’s cultural heritage.
Having chosen Dubai as the home for his first restaurant, Chef Nasir is inspired by the city’s emergence as a global culinary hub. With its diverse community, Dubai provides the perfect platform for Khadak. Merging food, culture, and art in one space, Khadak is poised to welcome guests on an unforgettable culinary journey through the iconic food streets of India.
