Hotel News catches up with Abdulhadi Chalak, country manager (UAE), Boecker Public Health at The Hotel Show Dubai, to find out more about its new bird control system and its training certification for F&B outlets.
What are your products and services for the hospitality industry?
Today in the UAE alone we are managing more than 35 five-star hotels. We provide them with our premium pest management services, along with our food safety services and bio-security services (professional disinfecting), typically on demand. We are always trying to introduce innovative solutions so today in addition to our portfolio of electric fly killers, we are introducing a new solution for bird control, which is harmless to birds and extremely cost-effective compared to existing solutions and won’t impact the aesthetics of your hotel. We are also trying to promote – especially with medical tourism peaking in the UAE – our bio-security portfolio to our hospitality clients. With medical tourism, bio-security (disinfecting) becomes a must. Our professional disinfecting service is there to protect you, your staff and your guests.
Do you offer any training services?
In addition to us being service providers, we provide a lot of consultancy and training so in certain areas. The first niche we have identified is for small and medium sized food establishments. We have developed our certification and re-certification programme titled QPA – Quality Platinum Award. We act as the consultant and the certifying body through a series of audits, trainings, and close follow up with the management just to make sure that in these small and medium sized food establishments, standards are held high and the reputations are conserved for our clients. This is something that can serve well for hotels that have more than one food establishment operating under their umbrella, especially if it has a lot of tenants that are operating on a lease basis and are not being managed by them directly. Over and above, we are introducing something called OHS Lite, which is a lighter version of your health and safety certifications that was tailor made to service the F&B industry. Perhaps hotels require higher standards, but in case they don’t, we can provide them with the basic training and requirements for them to secure their guests and staff.
What are your plans for the year ahead?
At Boecker we say that whenever there is a crisis, we choose not to participate. We have been growing significantly across the region – we are currently present across the GCC and the Middle East including Lebanon, Jordan, KSA, Kuwait and Qatar and we have a couple of franchisees in Africa. Our growth plans are directly correlated to our growing portfolio. Today we’re talking about hospitality but we’re also growing across the world in different industries so we have an interesting portfolio of services For example, we have a special certification now for nurseries called the SCC (Safe Childcare), so we’re trying to cater to different industries with innovative products and services.
