The Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) is preparing to host the third Ajman Liwa Dates Festival from July 27 – 29.
Aimed at promoting the importance of the date palm tree to the region, the festival will showcase the best produce of local date farmers in the emirate and is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors this year.
Faisal Al Nuaimi, general manager, ATDD, commented: “Preparations are underway to bring the third edition of Ajman Liwa Dates Festival to the emirate.
“We are meeting with the sponsors and organisers to make this festival a huge success. We will be announcing more details about the event in a few days and we’d like to invite our local date farmers to prepare and exhibit their finest produce of local dates.
“This year we are also adding the citrus fruits mango and lemon to the categories.”
In addition to providing a platform for farmers to showcase their products, the festival is also aimed at attracting tourists to discover the varieties of dates and learn about how the product is cultivated.
During the three-day festival cultural and heritage events will take place, focused around the importance of the date palm tree and how to take care of the tree to improve production of a diverse variety of dates.
Daily date competitions will take place, with the winner announced at the end of each day.
The festival is being held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman.
