The powerful voice of Andrea Bocelli mesmerised the crowd during the Italian tenor’s concert at Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Park on 24 November. With 90 million records sold, the bona fide member of music royalty, and much-decorated opera singer performed a host of his classics marking his fifth appearance in the UAE capital.
The touring orchestra opened the 90-minute performance with a captivating portrayal of Farandole before Bocelli took to the stage with La donna e mobile, followed by La mia Letizia infondere. The multiple Grammy Award nominee wowed the audience from his first note and continued to showcase his illustrious vocal range through a series of emotional renditions, including You’ll never walk alone and Voglio Vivere cosi.
Throughout the evening, sensational duets were also sung by Bocelli and Romanian soprano Cristina Pasaroiu as adoring fans were treated to lyrical classics such as O soave fanciulla and Tace il labbro. In addition, audiences witnessed an unforgettable showing by Ayanna Witter Johnson with her take on Roxanne.
Greeting the crowd, the musical maestro commented: “Thank you very much for being here today, I’m very happy to be back in Abu Dhabi for the first time in three years, I’d like to come back more often. It’s great there’s a lot of young people in the audience, I’m very happy with this because this kind of music is very important for them.”
Bocelli, who has performed for everyone from the Pope to Queen Elizabeth || and everywhere from the White House to the Olympic Games, winner of 20 dedicated global musical awards ended his stunning performance with fan favourites Vivo per lei and Canto della terra. The enchanted audience gave the Italian a standing ovation.
