Netsu by Ross Shonhan pays homage to the traditional art of Kabuki with an exclusive exhibit of works from celebrated Japanese photographer Hiroshi Watanabe.
Kabuki is a classical form of Japanese dance-drama tracing its roots to 1603. The characters are known to wear glamorous costumes with elaborate and over-the-top kumadori make-up. Kabuki characters adorn the walls of Netsu, making it the perfect space to recognise this ancient Japanese tradition.
Taking place from 12 October to 12 November 2022, Netsu will exhibit a number of exclusive photographs by the award-winning California-based photographer, some measuring up to two meters high, offering a rare glimpse at the faces of authentic Kabuki players who are driven solely by their passion for the artistry of theatre.
Aptly named Kabuki Secrets, the event marks the first time that Watanabe’s acclaimed ‘Kabuki Players’ portrait series will be showcased in the Middle East.
Elevating the experience further, Netsu will be serving a curated selection of theatrical dishes and cocktails throughout the month, as well as its complete à la carte offering. Especially crafted for the exhibition by chef Ross Shonhan, the limited-edition menu items include the Tuna Tamaki Hand Roll, Wagyu Kawarayaki Grill and Mont Blanc dessert, each prepared tableside by the chef, creating a spectacle bringing a Kabuki-inspired theatrical element to the dining experience.
Guests visiting Netsu, are invited for a complimentary cup of Sake or mocktail as they discover the exhibition and the secrets of the Kabuki characters.
Netsu by Ross Shonhan is located at Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai.
