Movenpick Resort Al Marjan Island proudly announces its recent achievement, on obtaining the internationally acclaimed Green Globe Certification (GGC).
As part of the esteemed Accor Group, this luxury haven has consistently aligned its green policies with a robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. Notably, it becomes the first property in Ras Al Khaimah to secure this prestigious accolade.
“We are elated to receive this prestigious award,” says General Manager Fabien Chesnais. “Sustainability is paramount in Ras Al Khaimah, where raising awareness and protecting our environment are vital.”
“We offer information on local culture, natural surroundings, and heritage sites along with guidance on respectful behaviour. Our excursion desk enables customers to book experiences like desert safari, mountain hikes, ziplining, village visits, monument tours and cycling within the island.”
The Green Globe Certification is the hallmark of sustainability within the tourism industry, boasting 349 stringent standards embraced by over 800 establishments across 50 countries. Not only does Movenpick Resort Al Marjan Island’s commitment to sustainability benefit the environment, but it also yields substantial cost savings.
The resort’s eco-conscious initiatives encompass efficient waste management and energy conservation, driven by innovative practices. The resort records daily energy consumption, utilizing motion sensors and digital thermostats in rooms to prevent wastage, setting nominal temperature targets for occupied areas.
Employee areas have occupancy sensors and LED lights are used for energy efficiency. Set to kick off in November 2023, the Eco Pure water treatment system will be the in-house bottling plant that reduces the carbon footprint by recycling glass bottles, preventing approximately 50,000 plastic bottles from entering the waste stream annually.
Electric buggies are used within the resort and employees are offered transport, while non-plastic amenities and mobile room access reduce single-use plastic. Additionally, grey water is put to good use by nourishing the resort’s landscaping.
Local art is incorporated into public areas, whether it’s paintings, wall décor, outdoor sculptures or culinary displays that celebrate local cuisine. Emirati speciality food features weekly in The Market and public holidays see live performances showcasing local culture.
The resort collaborates with the local animal protection association for beach and landscape monitoring, including a trap-neuter-release program for cats and turtle rehabilitation. The future aim is to partner with Emirates Nature WWF to educate customers and employees on wildlife impact and conservation awareness.
Moreover, Movenpick Resort Al Marjan Island greatly values community engagement and culturally enriched guest experiences, aligning seamlessly with Green Globe’s values. Their positive and progressive actions have helped them reach this momentous milestone and they will continue to lead the charge towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
