Throughout Ramadan, Al Bustan Rotana has been tackling food waste and donating food to those in need in line with Dubai Municipality’s Heafz AL Na’amah food donation programme.
The programme encourages hotels to donate excess food to be repackaged for charity.
Throughout the year, Al Bustan Rotana takes part in the programme, donating excess food from weddings and events.
It has strengthened its efforts during Ramadan by collaborating with Ro’yati Family Society to organise for food not served during iftar to be portioned and packed in the hotel’s kitchen and delivered to beneficiaries.
Last year, over 2,150 meals prepared for Iftar were distributed through charity organisations.
Hussein Hachem, cluster general manager of Al Bustan Rotana, Dubai and Al Murooj Rotana, Dubai commented: “Heafz Al Na’amah is not only a way to express solidarity to less fortunate people, it is also a great awareness medium.
“The main challenge remains to influence individual’s consuming habits. We at Al Bustan Rotana, Dubai will continue to reinforce our actions to minimise food wastage.”
