On January 4, Dubai chefs from 12 different entities will come together to create “The Longest Line of Pies”.
The current record is 1,608 pies. Chefs from Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, Radisson Blu Hotel DDC, Madinat Jumeirah, Le Méridien Airport, JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai, Crowne Plaza Shaikh Zayed Road, Waldorf Astoria DIFC, DoubleTree by Hilton JBR, Bakemart, Emirates Flight Catering, Caesars Bluewaters Dubai and the team from the International Centre for Culinary Arts Dubai (ICCA) will produce more than 2000 pies.
All pies will be made with USA Pears. Andy Cuthbert, Chairman of the Emirates Culinary Guild and General Manager for Jumeirah Creekside Hotel and Jumeirah Hospitality, Madinat Jumeirah Conferences & Events explained that 2,500 kilograms of USA Pears were brought in especially for this attempt from the USA.
Chef Uwe Micheel, President of the Emirates Culinary Guild and Culinary Adviser for Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek says, “The team has chosen this date to celebrate the 15th Accession Day of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.”
“Following the vision of His Highness, we have decided to give all 2000 plus USA Pear Pies to local charity. The Team from Sahem for Hope, a Dubai-based community initiative, is facilitating the distribution of these pies to those in need.”
Cuthbert thanked the industry and supporting product suppliers from Arla Pro, Farzana, NRTC, Al Badayer and SAFCO, and the Dubai Municipality Food Safety Department, as well as Grant Thornton UAE.
