Marriott Hotel Al Forsan Abu Dhabi packed leftover food from Friday brunches and handed it over to a volunteering organisation that helps feed stray dogs.
Marking the company’s annual Global Customer Appreciation Week (GCAW) and part of their ‘spirit to serve our communities’ programme, the five-star hotel in Khalifa City gave away 11 kilograms of unconsumed food as part of their participation in ‘The Doggy Bag’ initiative.
Items included meat, chicken, seafood (non-shell), rice, bread, cooked and raw vegetables, and selected pieces of sushi, saved from the hotel’s main buffet brunch in Khayal and new casual bar brunch in Appaloosa.
Collected by Jamal Al Breiki, an Emirati chef who launched the ‘The Doggy Bag’ initiative, the hotel’s food was packed by staff volunteers, then transported to Springbok Butchery and Catering UAE, where it was minced together.
It was later distributed to vets including Cloud 9 – a pet hotel, and volunteering groups who feed stray dogs in different locations including Industrial City of Abu Dhabi, Mussaffah and Khalifa City.
Marriott Hotel Al Forsan Abu Dhabi was among a number of nine Marriott hotels across the city to take part in the initiative. Collectively, the hotels donated 107 kilograms of food.
