24 members of the Marriott International Middle East and Africa team will be taking part in a 600km cycle across Jordan.
The cycle will be in aid of the group’s Road to Awareness campaign which aims to help raise much-needed funds for children in need.
Aimee Davidson, senior revenue manager at Marriott International, is participating in Road to Awareness for the first time.
“I was inspired to participate in Road to Awareness through my love of cycling and for my chosen charity, the Al Jalila Foundation,” she said, adding that the main thing she wants to achieve from this was to become more active.
“My goal is to be in the best shape possible for Road to Awareness and to train vigorously in the lead up by cycling four times per week with additional circuit training twice per week.”
Fred Smits, general manager at the Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa, had been avoiding the challenge for years thanks to an extremely busy lifestyle that’s made him unable to dedicate himself to a specific regime, but decided that with the support of his team riders, it was finally time to get involved.
“My goal is to reach the end and bring momentum into the hotel,” he said. Fred now manages to fit in three to four 40k cycling sessions per week, along with thrice-weekly sessions with a personal trainer.
Jakub Adamowicz, EAM of Facility Management for The Luxury Collection in Aqaba, Jordan, said that taking part is a great way to bolster his mental well-being.
“This is an opportunity to give something back to the world and to people in need,” he said.
Stephane Vanden Auweele, an area general manager for Marriott International, agrees.
“The main thing I want to achieve is to make the world a better place for children,” he said.
“I love participating in an activity that drives awareness and funds for children in need, while being able to do my favorite sport. It’s about perseverance and endurance to make things happen.”
The cycle will take place between October 12 and 14. The event was founded by Guido de Wilde, chief operating Officer for Marriot International.
