Throughout the month of December, Shanghai Me restaurant will celebrate the time-honoured tradition of Dongzhi. Otherwise known as the Winter Solstice and originating back to the Han Dynasty around 2000 years ago, it’s the season of gatherings, a time to bask in a warming reunion with family and friends while celebrating unity and prosperity with a lavish feast.
Dongzhi echoes the principles of the yin and yang philosophy and focuses on cuisine that nourishes the body. With that in mind, guests can choose from Shanghai Me’s epicurean a la carte menu with highlights including the Peking Duck with Chinese Caviar, Grilled Silver Cod with Yuzu Miso Sauce and grilled Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Chili Sauce.
As dumplings are a customary dish eaten during the festival, diners can feast on an array of dim sum, including Steamed Prawn and Truffle Dumplings Har Gau, Braised Wild Mushroom Dumplings and Steamed Kimchee Wagyu Dumplings. For the sweet indulgence, guests can enjoy Shanghai Me’s signature Giant Fortune Cookie, with chocolate and matcha mousse filling and hazelnut coating, complete with an edible fortune inside.
With retro-funk beats spun live on vinyl records throughout the restaurant and terrace from Monday to Saturday each week, guests can enjoy authentic sounds from years gone by, from soulful sixties sax right through to the R&B classics of the nineties. The eclectic, energetic musical direction fuels fun, laughter, tapping and clapping throughout each course.
Those looking to celebrate the festivities in a more exclusive and secluded setting can opt for the private dining room at Shanghai Me, catering to up to 14 guests.
