Leading the way in sustainability across luxury resorts in Dhofar, Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara has a continuous commitment to social, cultural and environmental conservation. We are on a mission to achieve zero waste and eliminate single use plastic.
The luxury beachfront resort, located on the southern coast of Oman, overlooking the Arabian Sea, has been thoughtfully developed in consideration of the surrounding nature using design principles that combine best practice with maximum efficiency. This sets a new benchmark for the luxury hospitality sector in the area.
A Conscious Resort
The focus on the environment begins with daily operations, which are continuously monitored to improve performance year on year. Recycling and waste reduction techniques are reviewed regularly, and innovative modern technology is employed to manage our natural resources. We also measure our guests’ satisfaction based on corporate standards and nurture excellence within our team members through regular training and development.
Every year, we strive to do better and make a real difference through our collective efforts.
Conserving Our Most Precious Resource
Throughout the resort we have minimised water consumption with the help of team members and guests. We use different water supplies – mains, recycled and rainwater, and treat wastewater in a way that causes the least ecological harm. Onsite, our sewage treatment plant treats grey and black water through a bio system that recycles the water for irrigation use.
Indigenous plants, which do not require a lot of water, are planted onsite to reduce landscape watering. Our pools are treated with a salt pool chlorinated system that reduces the amount of chemicals required for treatment and discards less water than normal resort pools.

Energy Conservation
By installing energy efficient lighting throughout the resort and keeping lights off wherever necessary, we conserve energy. We also invest in the most energy efficient equipment available and ensure that all appliances are switched off when not in use. Air conditioning is used mindfully, and we encourage guests to do the same.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
We follow the three Rs wherever practical throughout the resort. Solid waste disposal is taken care of in the most ecologically friendly way possible.
With the aim of achieving zero waste and removing single use plastics from our property, we have changed to glass bottles, biodegradable straws, and wooden key cards since early 2020.
Guests have environmentally friendly pens and slippers in their rooms and villas, and we are moving towards 100% paper-free guest communication. To highlight hotel offerings, Villa hosts use iPads for guest management, and in the near future we’ll install digital screens to replace printed advertisement.
Keeping Our Guests Safe
We maintain the health and safety of our guests and team members by identifying and monitoring all potential risks and hazards on a regular basis, and by implementing improved practice when risks are identified.
All team members are trained in energy conservation and environmental awareness, as part of our ongoing health and safety programme.
Harmony with our Surroundings
Connecting with the destination is a highlight for our guests and they can experience indigenous treatments at Anantara Spa, using local products such as frankincense and sea salt. Our Spice Spoons cooking class introduces regional specialities and ingredients, and personalised city tours to nearby UNESCO World Heritage Sites are available with our Omani Salalah Guru’s to learn more about the history of the capital of Dhofar. In addition, we give special consideration to employing and empowering Omanis in line with our social sustainability efforts.

Buy and Support Local
Careful thought is given to sourcing products and materials from local and Omani suppliers. From our chef’s garden at Mekong to the Royal Razat Farm in Salalah, all our fruit and vegetables are grown locally.
Hand in hand with guests, our Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara contributes to social and environmental projects. We support our communities through grassroots involvement, as well as matching guest donations to organisations that provide vital services, such as child welfare and wildlife protection.
In every decision, we are driven by sustainable tourism. We choose to conserve natural resources, deliver a positive impact to our community, and ensure that sustainable growth is integral to our daily operations.
