Hailing from Toronto, the 120 person Mexican-inspired eating joint will be turning up the heat with its fusion of Latin American street food, urban art, and smooth hip hop jams.
Famed for its tacos, the Dubai restaurant will be serving up some of the most popular dishes, including its signature In Cod We Trust, made using fresh-caught cod, La Carnita’s special recipe Voltron sauce, lime crema, in-house pickled red cabbage, green apple, and cilantro. The menu also features gluten-free and vegan options such as crispy cauliflower tacos and mushroom tostadas.
The original designer, Ian Rydberg, from Canada has also designed the Dubai venue to bring the original La Carnita vibes to the restaurant. Fusing urban street art with the gritty alleyways of North American buildings, Rydberg has focused on drawing out the raw, warehouse feel of the basement location using plenty of wrought iron and concrete.
Hamdan Al-Khafaji, Founder of La Carnita DXB, said: “Ever since I walked into the very first La Carnita in Toronto, I knew bringing it to Dubai was inevitable. The walls covered in incredible street art, the vibe of the place and that’s before I tried the food, everything was so creative and contemporary, yet there was this casual vibe that made it somewhere you wanted to hang out all the time. I then started the long journey of learning everything I could from the guys in Toronto to make the Dubai version totally authentic. I can’t wait for the people of Dubai to experience La Carnita and enjoy the most epic street food known to man.”
La Carnita began as a pop-up food stand on Toronto’s underground food-fest circuit, where it gave away tacos alongside artworks and regularly drew massive line-ups of hungry foodies. Building up a steady fanbase, it took the Toronto food scene by storm and now has seven restaurants across the city.
La Carnita DXB is now open in the basement level of the InterContinental Hotel in Dubai Marina. The restaurant will be open seven days a week, from 5pm – late.
