Volunteer associates at more than 70 participating Marriott hotels in the Middle East, including 38 in UAE, celebrated Ramadan with the company’s annual ‘Iftar for Cabs’ initiative.
Staff at participating hotels prepared iftar packs with a selection of food and beverage items and distributed these to taxi drivers at the premises on 14 June during the hour of iftar.
Alex Kyriakidis, president and managing director, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International said: “We thank the cab drivers who support our hotels and provide our guests with transportation services throughout the year.
“Iftar for Cabs embodies the spirit of Ramadan and we are extremely proud of our hotel teams as they unite to give back and recognise important members of our community.”
Launched in 2010, the ‘Iftar for Cabs’ initiative has turned into an annual tradition for many cab drivers throughout the region.
Le Meridien Dubai Hotel + Conference Centre, Sheraton Grand Hotel, The St. Regis Saadiyat Resort, Abu Dhabi, and Four Points by Sheraton Bur Dubai were some of the properties that took part this year.
Shaun Parsons, general manager at Le Méridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre, commented: “It’s fantastic to see the initiative growing year-on-year and with more hotels now taking part, it’s a humble feeling to know that as a team we’re helping even more people.
“We’re always proud to be part of the ‘Iftar for cabs’ movement and embrace the true spirit of Ramadan.”
