Following their #6 ranking on The Middle East and North Africa’s 50 Best Restaurants List, Orfali Bros. puts Syrian flavours on the global radar with a landmark ranking. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list reflects the opinions and experiences of 1080 anonymous voters from 27 regions across the globe and is a key source of dining inspiration for global gastronomes. The voters are comprised of chefs and restauranteurs, food writers and well-travelled gourmets, with 50% of voters being female and 50% male. 2022 marks the first appearance by a UAE restaurant in many years, with 2016 being the last time a restaurant from the Emirates made the cut. The 51-100 list was released ahead of the upcoming London-based top 50 announcement event, scheduled for 18th July.
Says The World’s 50 Best Restaurants of Orfali Bros., “Founded by three food-loving Syrian brothers, Orfali Bros Bistro is a true dedication to global cuisine. Mohammad, Wasim and Omar have devised a menu of their favourite dishes, organised by temperature and all featuring a certain nostalgia and whimsy. Standout plates include the vegetable-inspired ‘Roots of my Backyard Forest’ featuring labneh, walnut muhammara, carrot and nasturtium, and ‘Come with me to Aleppo’, blending wagyu beef, sour cherry tomato sauce, parsley and cinnamon.”
The highly prized ranking is the latest in a string of achievements for Orfali Bros. Bistro, having recently been named as one of Conde Nast Traveller’s Best New Restaurants in the World 2022 and awarded a Bib Gourmand in the inaugural Michelin Guide Dubai.
Says Chef Mohamad Orfali of the ranking, “Since opening Orfali Bros. nearly a year and a half ago, the restaurant has been our sole priority. The pace has been relentless, with not a day off since – but all of our hard work is paying off. To be voted in the top 100 restaurants in the world is an achievement we didn’t even dare dream of, especially so soon.
When we opened Orfali Bros., it wasn’t with awards and accolades in mind. We didn’t even know 50 Best and Michelin were coming to the region. Our goal is to serve the best food, with the best experience, to ensure our guests are happy – for us, that’s the best reward. These awards are just a bonus, the icing on the cake. The hard work doesn’t stop here, however, we want to let our guests know that the best is yet to come.”
