Courtyard by Marriott World Trade Center, Abu Dhabi, has appointed Matthias Widor as its new general manager.
“I believe that this is going to be a very exciting and fun journey, with an amazingly talented team made up of diverse nationalities all of who are focused on the goal, we have for the Courtyard by Marriott brand which is to make room for a little fun,” said Widor.
“The hotel is perfectly positioned adjacent to the city’s The Mall at World Trade Center and just five minutes’ walk from the Corniche.
“Everyone can spend some me time relaxing in the hotel’s gymnasium or rooftop swimming pool before heading to one of the three exciting F&B venues available.”
He brings over 15 years of experience to the role having started his Marriott career in 2000 in Munich, before transferring in 2004 to the Frankfurt Marriott Hotel as catering service manager.
This was followed by a spell as F&B manager in Stuttgart, Germany, before a move to Asia in 2007.
This included director of F&B assignments at the New World Hotel Saigon, the Renaissance Phuket, the Marriott Hotel Manila and finally in 2012 at the JW Marriott Seoul.
In 2015, Widor relocated to the UAE to work at the JW Marriott Dubai as director of operations.
He is an international baccalaureate at the German School in London followed by a graduation in international hotel management from the Hotel Academy Modul in Vienna, Austria in 2000.
Widor has continued his self-development by achieving a master’s certificate in hotel management in 2014 from Cornell University.
He was also a member of the Marriott Asia operational advisory board until his move in 2015 to the Middle East and Africa region.
