Kim Gates has been appointed as the new executive chef at Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche.
Chef Gates will supervise Thai Silk & Spice, Corniche all day dining; French bakery corner, Le Café lobby lounge, Club Millésime executive lounge, and Grills @ Chill’O, for which he has introduced a new Friday brunch concept by the pool.
He will also be tasked with overseeing room service for 280 guest rooms and suites and banquets accommodating up to 1,000 people.
Commenting on his plans for the new role, Gates said “At the present we are working on new restaurant menus and concepts and Unique Outside Catering, which will be launched this spring.”
Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche GM Nael E-Waary added: “From my five years’ experience at two award-wining Sofitel hotels in the UAE and Bahrain, I can say that Chef Gates knows how to transform cooking into an art, to arouse the senses of our guests.”
Prior to his appointment he was part of the pre-opening team of Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa resort.
With 30 years’ experience, Gates has worked throughout Australia, UAE, Russia, Republic of Vanuatu, Maldives and Bahrain.
He has a Bachelor of Science (BS) from The University of Western Australia, HSC Major from Armadale SHS and HACCP Certification from The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
The culinary team at Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche consists of 52 chefs from 15 countries.
